The landscape here has been shaped by thousands of years of volcanic activity. From the incredible Lake Toba which was formed around 75,000 years ago in one of the most fierce volcanic eruptions ever known to the still smouldering Mt Sibayak, volcanoes dominate the landscape everywhere.

Lake Toba is one of the awesome natural wonders of the world. This is a crater lake so enormous it has an island Samosir in the middle of the lake. The view of the picturesque mountains set against the cool clear lake, as the lake sits 900 meters above sea level there is a cooler climate here making a refreshing break from the heat, humidity and pollution of the city. This is a place to come and enjoy the legendary Batak hospitality.

Parapat live the Batak Toba and Batak Simalungun people,although the majority have embraced Christianity, ancient beliefs and traditions still persist.

Samosir in the middle of the lake. the original home of the Batak Toba people, the island has many traces of ancient days including stone tombs and traditional villages, such as at Ambarita which has a courtyard with stone furniture where in the old days convicts were tried and beheaded. Simanindo where traditional Batak ritual dances and music are performed. Here is where you'll be able to discover unique and ancient Toba culture.

Sipiso-piso waterfall is located on the North side of Lake Toba, 24 kms from Kabanjahe. This long but narrow waterfall drops 120 meters into an impressive gorge below, surrounded by a lush green mountainscape and with a rainbow forming at the base of the waterfall

Bukit Lawang is a gateway to the legendary Sumatran jungle with it’s steep slippery terrain and muddy slopes, exploring the jungle here is a true adventure. Trek through the breathtakingly thick jungle and be transported into to new world. It is the gentle giants of the jungle, the orangutans. One of the best places in the world to meet this rare and endangered primate. The Orangutan rehabilitation center is where young orphaned orangutans are trained to live in the wild.
